Gravity Tunnel

Long time.
I just enjoy making these composite images. I said it before they are exxageration of whatever is going on in my life.
I basically got the idea for this image from my niece, when she was talking about flying with an umbrella.
I went for the flying umbrella then realised that I wanted something more complex while keeping the idea of flying or floating.
I spent 3 weeks on this image; literally. I was adding something to it every other day.

This has probably been my most challenging image to date. Indeed, I always try to make the images look real by painting shadows on the ground, creating contact points with the background and all; but for this image, there is no contact point since everything is supposed to be floating in that tunnel.
The contact points had to be the walls (walls that they are not even touching-get it?-)/ That's why I had to paint some types of shadows on these walls.

The process of making something fake look real and cartoonish is really ambiguous. And I'm always trying to tell a story with these images.

Anyway I think I wrote too much here today, just enjoy the image.
I might post a video on how I made this. Just like I did here.

I finally was able to show them my secret app. The expression on their faces tells you how amazing this app is. I bet some readers here would like to know the name of that app. I'll tell yall later.

Making of Long and Whining Road

Here is the making of The Long and Whining Road. I shot it last week. The name of the image is obviously a play on the song Long and Winding Road by The queen of soul Aretha Franklin (Probably my favorite female artist of all times). Anyway...

As I mentioned in a previous post, the inspiration for those images comes from close people around me. Generally from Dayly peace or from my niece. It's basically me exaggerating a funny scene that happened in our lives, of expanding an idea, an action or thought coming from them.

Once I got the idea, I draw it in Paint (as you can see in the beginning of that video). After that I can shoot the models and different items that will be in the image and eventually go out shoot the background. There are many tips and tricks on how to shoot the models, extract them, and blend them with the background. There's even a specific way of shooting and preparing the background.

For this particular image, I didnt shoot he background, I used a free stock image, but I felt the sky was boring, so I blend it with a sunset from another image. I got it from a free stock image site. (By the way I need to credit the guys from who I got those, I'll do it when i trace it back).

The key in composites like this is the lighting. You need to figure out the light source and process everything accordingly (Shadows, glows, model shooting...the list goes on).
The hardest thing is Photoshop, you need to know the basics, I'm still figuring things out everyday.

The best feeling is when I compare the initial drawing to the final image. It's Priceless.

Long and whining road

I've always wondered why women travel with so many luggages.

I've been working on this image for 2 days. I'm pretty happy with the result mainly because I only use natural light for it. As I said one these composite images are fun to make. 

They are an exaggeration of whatever is going on in my life, so that's basically where I find the inspiration for them. I building a whole portfolio of them called THE TURN (like the second phase of a magic trick you know...)

Thank to my gorgeous model Daylypeace who was patient enough while I was taking the shot. 

This was made with 5 different images and a bunch of photoshop layers. I might post an actual tutorial for this someday.

After that hiatus/ On the bridge before with met Castro

Whew, yeah, it's been a long time.
So long, because of a whole bunch of stuffs. there was end of semester exams, paperwork all that. But I also got G.A.S (Gear Acquistion Syndrome) during that time. If you a enthusiast photographer, or a photographer period, you know what Im talking about.
I still cherish my beloved NEX F3, but it's time to upgrade. It'll either be the A7, or the OMD EM1.
During that hiatus, I still had a close relationship with my camera: did a couple events (events that I no longer want to do-there will be a post on that-) , took some shots here and there, learned some new tricks and all that. I even sharpened my photoshop skills trying to do composite and all that.
Speaking of composite, I made this image a couple weeks ago, as you know already the model is my beloved half, the woman who share my heart (daylypeace). Got the background from devianart(I'll credit the author), and shot Daylypeace in my bedroom. the image (especially the background) remind me somewhat of a bridge that I saw in a movie about Fidel Castro, somewhere in the cuban forest, Hence the title. Anyway, I'm always going for that cartoonish look when I make composite image.
